9/26/2013 0 Comments Our Knerdy Family is Growing! The Knerdy Knitters began in December 2011 when Tammy Takahashi had the idea to form a group to promote and support the craft and practice of knitting and other fiber arts in the San Fernando Valley. She envisioned an active Guild with charity knitting, knit-a-longs, workshops, retreats, social events, casual knitting, and much more.
Our little group that started with only four knitters is growing every month. And we love it!! Thank you to all of our members. Your participation at our events and get togethers is invaluable. We hope you enjoy being a Knerdy Knitter as much as we enjoy having you with us. We are looking forward to the next time we all get to knit and crochet together!

For the last year, the Knerdy Knitters have been working on several charity projects. Led by our Charity Project Chair, Jenn, we have completed a beautiful blanket for Warm Up America. Our task was to knit many 7"x9" squares in any color. Jenn collected the squares, crochet chained them together and added a gorgeous border. The final product is nothing short of amazing. Thanks to everyone who participated in building this blanket and a special thanks to Jenn for all of her hard work on this project. We sincerely hope it brings love and warmth to its new owner. If you want to be involved in our ongoing charity projects, please refer to the Charity Projects portion of our website (found in the Projects and Events pulldown menu). We are currently making baby blankets for Project Linus. For the second year in a row, members of the Knerdy Knitters have entered their beautiful knit and crochet work into the Tapestry Competition at the LA County Fair. We are proud to announce that each and every Knerdy Knitter submission was awarded a ribbon! Congrats to Tammy, Sarah, Jenn, Dominica, and Stacie on their beautiful work and the ribbons they earned.
Submissions for next year's Fair are due sometime in June 2014. We would love to have every Knerd submit something to the competition! Don't be afraid! You can do this!! In addition to participating in the competition, our Guild also volunteered in the Tapestry Area on September 21, 2013. We had a great time sitting together, knitting and showing the other Fair attendees how much fun the yarn arts can be. Friday Night Cruise shows at Bob's Big Boy in Burbank have been a weekly tradition for decades. Starting this month, it may be a tradition for the Knerdy Knitters as well. On September 20th, Knerdy Knitters Jenn and Stacie visited the car show with Jenn's own beautiful 1974 Ford Bronco, lovingly named "Buck."
They had a great time sittin' and knittin' with a front row seat to all of the great automobiles that paraded by. Andrea and Rita Smith also dropped by the show and that gave us an idea... We should have a monthly Knerdy Knitters Cruise Night! (Any excuse to get together and knit, really). Keep your eyes out for an evite with all the details. We hope to see you down there! |
